Welcome.
Our Association was founded in February 1996 by the relatives and doctors who cared for Laura, a young woman diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 24.
The sunflower, Laura’s favourite flower, became the symbol and logo of the Association, accompanied by the sun that shines upon it, both symbols of life and hope.
Through the Association, we support the Bone Marrow Transplant Centre (CTMO) at the Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico and the Haematology Department of ASST Fatebenefratelli-Sacco in Milan.
With the donations we receive from our supporters – whether through events or direct contributions – we fund tangible projects, often to address the challenges public hospitals face in finding resources to ease the suffering of those undergoing bone marrow transplantation.
Examples include:
- research and study grants for doctors, nurses, and researchers
- purchase of materials and diagnostic equipment
- training for healthcare professionals through master’s programmes and refresher courses
- support for patients’ wellbeing during hospital stays
- reimbursement of travel expenses
Every project arises from dialogue with those who work daily in hospitals. Every donation becomes a tangible act of help.

Our story
Over the years, we have carried out dozens of projects, raised funds through charity events, stood by those facing illness and bone marrow transplantation, and built a network of support made up of patients, families, doctors, nurses, volunteers and donors.
Our strength lies in the trust that is renewed each day by those who choose us, support us, and share a part of their journey with us.
Donors, friends and fellow travellers
We are supported by individuals, informal groups, associations and companies.
Those who choose to donate to ALC do so for many different reasons: some have experienced illness first-hand and wish to give something back; others wish to build a relationship renewed each year; and some simply choose to support us with a one-off donation.
Every gesture makes a difference, and everyone can become part of our story.
“What we do is just a drop in the ocean, but if we didn’t do that drop, the ocean would be missing something.”
